Gary Oldman might be my favorite living actor. Nowadays he’s probably best known for playing Commissioner Gordon in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy, but back in the 1980′s when Oldman made his first breakthroughs as one of the very best actors of his generation, he set cinemas on fire with go-for-broke performances in films like Meantime, Prick Up Your Ears, and Alex Cox’ biopic of Sid Vicious and Nancy Spungen. Pitchfork just announced that Sid & Nancy will be getting restored, repackaged and re-released by Criterion Collection in August. Here’s the word…

Alex Cox’s cult classic 1986 film Sid & Nancy is a biopic that chronicles the lives and deaths of Sex Pistols bassist Sid Vicious (played by Gary Oldman) and his girlfriend Nancy Spungen (played by Chloe Webb). The film has been restored for a new Criterion Collection release, which is out August 22. The new 4K digital restoration features an uncompressed stereo soundtrack on the Blu-ray edition. It comes with a 1987 documentary on the film, England’s Glory, as well an infamous televised 1976 interview with the Sex Pistols and a rare telephone interview with Sid Vicious.
