Keeping with yesterday’s Gen-X cult film post, here’s a French cartoon from 1988. Gandahar is an adult sci-fi adventure that finds the peaceful people of planet Gandahar teaming-up with a deformed race of mutants in order to defeat the mechanized menace of the Men of Metal
This gem is a must-watch for fans of Heavy Metal, Wizards and Fantastic Planet. It’s a cool cartoon, but the real attraction here is the provenance of the English language version of the film: Light Years was directed by Harvey Weinstein and produced by Bob Weinstein. Isaac Asimov revised the translation of the script, and Glenn Close, Jennifer Grey, Terrence Mann, Penn and Teller, Bridget Fonda, David Johansen,and Christopher Plummer were among the voice cast.
